The ATP Cup 2021 was a men's team tennis tournament that was played on a hard court. It was the second edition of the tournament, which took place from February 2 to 7, 2021 and was part of the ATP Tour 2021 . Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the game was only played in Melbourne , in Melbourne Park , with a reduced field of 12 nations.
The winner of the first edition last year was Serbia , whose team consisted of Novak Đoković , Dušan Lajović , Nikola Milojević , Nikola Čačić and Viktor Troicki . In the final, they met the Spanish team , which they defeated 2-1. Although brought Roberto Bautista Agut the Spaniards first with a 2: 0 win against Dušan Lajović the lead, Novak Djokovic possible but following against Rafael Nadal from whom he also defeated in straight sets. The decision brought the double game that Đoković and Viktor Troicki played against Pablo Carreño Busta and Feliciano López . The Serbs won 6: 3 and 6: 4 and thus secured the tournament victory.
In the same week, the Great Ocean Road Open and the Murray River Open took place at the same location . These both belonged to the ATP Tour 250 category .
mode
A total of 12 nations qualified for the tournament, which were divided into four groups of three teams. The teams qualified via the ATP world rankings based on the top-ranked player in a nation. To be eligible for the tournament as a nation, it had to have at least three players in the world rankings, two of them with a placement in the individual. If the host did not qualify, he was given a wild card .
In the group stage, the teams competed against each other twice in singles and once in doubles. The clashes followed a fixed order: first the second best individual players of each team met, then the best individual players. Most recently, even if one team was already in the lead, a double. The four group winners qualified for the semi-finals, where the knockout phase began.
World ranking points
World ranking points were awarded at the ATP Cup. While in singles the number of possible points depended on the opponent's position in the ranking, the position of the opponents in doubles played no role.
