Oleksandr Walentynowytsch Areschtschenko ( Ukrainian Олександр Валентинович Арещенко ; born June 15, 1986 in Luhansk ) is a Ukrainian chess master .

In 2000 he became youth world champion with the U14 in Oropesa del Mar. He has been international champion since 2001 and grandmaster since 2002 . In 2005 he became Ukrainian champion in the individual competition. In 2009 he was able to win an open in Mumbai and one in Zurich in the tie-breaker . Areschchenko was able to qualify twice for the World Chess Cup and reached the third round in both 2005 and 2009 . In November 2017 he declared his professional career over.

Team chess

National team

While Areschtschenko nor any Chess Olympiad took part, he was at the World Team Championships in 2011, 2013 (in which the Ukrainian team each took third place) and 2017 and at the European Team Championships in 2007, 2013 and 2015 for the Ukrainian selection.

Club chess

Areschchenko was four times Ukrainian team champion, namely in 2002 with Kramatorsk , 2007 with Keystone Kiev and in 2008 and 2009 with PVK Kiev . He won the Russian team championship in 2012 with Tomsk-400 . He has been playing for Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga since 2005 , and in the Polish Ekstraliga since 2013 he has been a member of KSz HetMaN Szopienice's team (since 2015 WASKO HETMAN Katowice), with whom he became champions in 2013 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 . In Spain he played for CA La Caja Las Palmas in 2007 and for Mérida Patrimonio de la Humanidad Ajoblanco in 2017 , in Hungary in the 2016/17 and 2018/19 seasons for DVTK Sport Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság and in France in 2017 for Grasse Echecs . Areschtschenko took part in the European Club Cup nine times , in 2008 he reached third place with PVK Kiev , while he achieved the best result on the fourth board in the individual ranking in 2011, the third best result on the third board in 2003 and on the fourth board in 2008.
