Alfred Eduard August Hermann von Lewinski (born December 21, 1862 in Prenzlau , † September 21, 1914 in Chauny , France) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 33rd Infantry Brigade .

Life

Alfred was the son of the same name of the Prussian general of the infantry Alfred von Lewinski (1831-1906) and his wife Anna Dorothea, née Pehlemann (1837-1906). Two of his brothers Wilhelm (1867–1942) and Felix (1869–1936) also rose to major general.

Military career

After attending grammar schools in Frankfurt (Oder) and Altona as well as the cadet houses in Plön , Berlin and Lichterfelde , Lewisnkie was transferred to the Guard Rifle Battalion of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant on April 16, 1881 . From September 25, 1884 to March 12, 1888 he was adjutant of the battalion and graduated from October 1888 to June 1891 for further training at the military academy . He rose to Prime Lieutenant at the end of March 1890 and was assigned to the General Staff from March 29 to April 1, 1892 . Left in this command, he was transferred to the Grenadier Regiment "King Wilhelm I" (2nd West Prussian) No. 7 on September 14, 1893 . After he had been aggregated with the promotion to captain of the Great General Staff , Lewinski was two months later to the General Command of the XVI. Army Corps commanded and assigned to the General Staff on August 18, 1895. From April 17, 1897 to June 1, 1898 he was a company commander in Infantry Regiment No. 128 in Danzig . Subsequently assigned to the General Staff, Lewinski was transferred to the officer assigned to the General Staff on October 24, 1898 under position à la suite of his regiment.

After the beginning of the First World War , Lewinski led his large unit in the association of the 17th Infantry Division at Mons , Esternay , Boissey, Hongaarde, and Bitry . He was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and was seriously wounded on September 20, 1914 in the storming of Nampcel in northern France. He succumbed to these wounds a day later in Chauny.

family

Lewinski married Gertrud Wilberg (* 1871) on October 8, 1893 in Görlitz . The daughters Ruth (* 1896), Ursula (* 1900) and Waltraud (* 1908) emerged from the marriage.
