Andreas Hörl (* 1973 in Munich ) is a German concert and opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Andreas Hörl attended the State Luitpold-Gymnasium in Munich from 1984 , where he graduated from high school in 1993 . He plays the trombone and the piano , took private singing lessons and, after training as an insurance salesman, worked for Allianz SE from 1994 to 1997 .

He then began studying singing with Kurt Moll at the Cologne University of Music and attended master classes with Mechthild Gessendorf , Reinhard Leisenheimer , Jan-Hendrik Rootering , Harald Stamm , Hermann Winkler and Josef Loibl, among others .

Immediately after completing his studies in Cologne in 1999, he was accepted into the international opera studio of the Hamburg State Opera , where he took on the role of hotel manager in the opera studio production of Powder Her Face by Thomas Adès in the spring of 2001. For a CD recording for the WDR of Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber in June of the same year he sang the role of the hermit.

Andreas Hörl made his debut early in large roles, for example as Baron Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier in Bremerhaven in 2004 and as Landgraf in Minden in 2005. He was a permanent member of the Hamburg State Opera from the 2001/02 to 2005 season, then sang in the ensemble for two years of the Cologne Opera , was permanently engaged at the Zurich Opera House from the 2007/08 season to 2012 and at the Vienna State Opera from 2012 to 2014 .

Andreas Hörl has been a freelance artist since the 2014/15 season and made his debut as Fafner in Das Rheingold und Siegfried at the Bayreuth Festival in 2015 .

In the 2015/16 season he made his debuts at La Scala in Milan as the first craftsman in the new production of Wozzeck and as Hunding in the new production of Die Walküre at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest , which he then performed in a concert performance of the Valkyrie from the Odense Symphony Orchestra repeated. In December 2016 he appeared as König Marke at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma under the direction of Daniele Gatti . In summer 2017 he sang again in the Meistersinger at the Bayreuth Festival .

In 2018 he was a guest in Odense in the Ring cycle as Hunding and Fafner and in Bayreuth as Hans Schwarz. In September he made his debut as Hagen in the new production of Götterdämmerung by the Minden City Theater in cooperation with the Richard Wagner Association Minden and the Northwest German Philharmonic under the musical direction of Frank Beermann. He also sang Father Guardian ( La forza del destino ) at the Stadttheater Gießen and Timur at the Theater Chemnitz .

In 2019 he appeared as Baron Ochs at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin . It was followed again by his Hagen in Minden and Fafner ( Siegfried ) at the State Theater in Oldenburg .

In addition to the classical bass parts, he is also interested in the music of the 20th century and the great choral works of sacred literature from Bach to Haydn , Mozart and Schubert to Verdi and Rossini .

In the course of his career he has been accompanied by well-known orchestras and has sung under important conductors such as Frieder Bernius , Ingo Metzmacher , Hans Wallat and Claudio Abbado , who gave him a guest performance with the Berlin Philharmonic after a performance by Tristan and Isolde at the Salzburg Easter Festival in Tokyo .
