The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand & Polynesia is a member of the Anglican Communion and has 584,793 members in 552 parishes served by 822 clergymen . At the head of their nine dioceses is the Archbishop of New Zealand as the primate .

After 1970, the remarriage of divorcees whose former spouse was still alive, had been approved, it came in 1977 and the first ordination of a woman and 1990 with Penny Jamieson for the episcopal ordination of the first diocesan bishop of the Anglican Communion . In May 2018, the General Synod endorsed the public blessing of same-sex couples .
