After 1970, the remarriage of divorcees whose former spouse was still alive, had been approved, it came in 1977 and the first ordination of a woman and 1990 with Penny Jamieson for the episcopal ordination of the first diocesan bishop of the Anglican Communion . In May 2018, the General Synod endorsed the public blessing of same-sex couples .
