At the 2010 Asian Games in China , two football competitions were held from November 7th to 25th, 2010 . 24 teams took part in the men's tournament and 7 teams in the women's tournament. The games were held in Guangzhou .
As since the 2002 tournament in Busan, only U-23 teams were admitted to the men , who could be reinforced with a maximum of three older athletes. This restriction did not apply to women.
Japan won the men's tournament by beating the United Arab Emirates 1-0 in the final . In the bronze medal match, South Korea beat Iran 4: 3 . In the women's category, Japan won the final against North Korea 1-0. South Korea secured the bronze medal with a 2-0 win against the hosts from China .
Venues
The games were played in seven different stadiums in Guangzhou . The two finals and the two bronze games took place at Tianhe Stadium .
Men's tournament
Attendees
The teams were seeded for the seeding list based on their placements at the 2006 Asian Games football tournament . The draw took place on October 7, 2010.
With a total of 24 teams, no new record was set. Of the 2006 participants, only five teams were missing: Indonesia, Iraq, Macau, Syria and Tajikistan. Turkmenistan was there again (last time in 2002).
Remarks
1 Iraq withdrew from the competition. He was replaced by
Pakistan .
Group stage
The group winners and runners-up qualified together with the four best third-placed group for the quarter-finals, the remaining third and fourth-placed teams were eliminated from the competition. If two or more teams were tied, the placement was determined by the following criteria:
