The Moers station is located on the 1904 by the Prussian state railway built Niederrhein route . It is located on the eastern edge of Moers city center on the road to Duisburg-Homberg. The regional train station is now a station of the RB 31 .

Behind the station building from 1904 are the four station tracks with their two 230-meter and 239-meter-long platforms in an elevated position.

Opposite the station building on the other side of the station forecourt is the platform of the district station of the former Moerser Kreisbahn , which today belongs to the Niederrheinische Verkehrsbetriebe (NIAG). It is still used for special trips.

The siding to the NIAG vehicle workshop and the Vossloh Service Center Moers branches off directly at Moers train station .

history

The first train station in Moers was east of today's train station on the former route from the Ruhrort – Homberg to Moers route, which had been opened in 1883.

In 1904 the station was relocated to its present location on the Lower Rhine route. The line to Homberg was closed in 1908 and replaced by a tram line.

In 1882 the station of the Krefeld Railway Company was built on the station forecourt . From there trains ran via Niep and Hüls to Krefeld . In 1886, a transfer track to the state railway was built north of the station. Passenger traffic was temporarily suspended from 1932 to 1939 and completely suspended on October 3, 1949. On February 15, 1974, freight traffic to Moers was also stopped and the route was then dismantled.

To the west of this station on the station forecourt has been the station of the Moerser Kreisbahn, which has been designed as a terminal station since 1909, from which routes lead to Hörstgen - Sevelen and to Rheinberg via Orsoy . Scheduled passenger traffic was discontinued on September 28, 1968. Here, too, there is a transfer to the state railway north of the station, which is still in use today.

Construction work to modernize the station began in June 2014. The previously blunt pedestrian tunnel was also given an access on the other side, elevators are being installed and the platforms have already been raised and new platform roofs have been added. The breakthrough of the people tunnel to the platforms was completed in May 2015 under construction. Work on the pedestrian tunnel has been completed since December 2018, except for the installation of the elevators to the platforms.

future

The city of Kamp-Lintfort is making efforts to reactivate local rail passenger transport there. Since the railway line to Kamp-Lintfort can only be reached from Moers station by sawing through the district station, the track systems in the station would have to be converted to implement this project. Since up to now every second train on the RB 31 line ends in Moers, these trains could then continue to run on this route to Neukirchen-Vluyn. Since the 2010s, the city of Kamp-Lintfort has been requesting a connection via the mine connection railway (railway line Zeche Friedrich Heinrich – Rheinpreußen-Hafen) through a clip that branches off in Rheinkamp. Trains ending in Moers would be extended there.

On May 23, 2020, the Kamp-Lintfort Süd train station was opened for the Lower Rhine . Since then there has been a weekend shuttle service.
