The Barneführer wood and Schreensmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities Hatten , Wardenburg and Großenkneten in Oldenburg district . The name of the forest ("wood") indicates that it already existed at a time when the noble family of Bernefuers exercised lordship and property rights in the area around Wardenburg, which had been the case since the 14th century.
The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 240 is about 238 hectares . It is almost completely part of the FFH area "Middle and Lower Hunte (with Barnführer Holz and Schreensmoor)". The nature reserve is to a large extent from the conservation area surrounded "Mean Hunte". In the southeast, the nature reserve borders on the nature reserve "Staatsforst Alt-Osenberge, Wunderhorn, Oldenburger Sand, Tannersand with peripheral areas", to the west on the nature reserve " Mittlere Hunte ", which was designated in November 2019 . The area of the Hunte merged into the "Mittlere Hunte" nature reserve, which reduced the nature reserve from its original 251 hectares to 238. The area has been a nature reserve since April 5, 2003. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Oldenburg.
The reserve is located in the Hunte valley between Huntlosen and Sandkrug . It includes u. a. Near-natural forest areas, including alluvial forests such as alder-ash-alluvial forest and hardwood alluvial forest , swamp areas and wet meadows . The nature reserve is used for forestry and agriculture.
There is a Douglas fir planted in 1845 by the forest hut in the nature reserve . The Douglas fir, designated as a natural monument in 2000 , is one of the oldest in Germany.
Several forest and hiking trails run through the nature reserve . It is also used for local recreation .
