The Mittlere Hunte is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities of Dötlingen , Großenkneten , Hatten and Wardenburg in the district of Oldenburg and in the city of Oldenburg (Oldb) .

General

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 319 is around 124  hectares in size. Of this, around 114.3 hectares are in the Oldenburg district and around 9.7 hectares in the city of Oldenburg. The nature reserve lies entirely within the FFH area "Middle and Lower Hunte (with Barnführer Holz and Schreensmoor)". It is to a large extent from the conservation area surrounded "Mean Hunte", which has risen in the scope of the nature reserve regulation in the nature reserve. In the area of ​​Barnführer Holz, it borders directly on the “ Barnführer Holz und Schreensmoor ” nature reserve in the northeast . Here, too, the part of the nature reserve within the scope of the nature reserve ordinance of the "Mittlere Hunte" nature reserve has merged into this. At Hundsmühlen it borders on the “ Lethe ” nature reserve . The area has been under nature protection since November 9, 2019. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the district of Oldenburg and the independent city of Oldenburg.

The nature reserve is located in the south and south of the city of Oldenburg. It extends along the Hunte from the mouth of the Rittrumer Mühlbach near Ostrittrum to the hydropower plant in Oldenburg and includes the Rittrumer Mühlbach from the former water mill south of Ostrittrum to its confluence with the Hunte. The reserve comprises the Rittrumer millstream and Hunte to the boom top edge plus one meter, the ranges of 2015 applied Dehlandschleife with their center islands and formed in the installation of the loop old branches as well as a dead arm southwest of Sandhatten and below the Barneführer timber the diked area of Hunte .

The nature reserve is also a habitat for various dragonflies such as the blue feathered dragonfly , the banded demoiselle , the blue-winged demoiselle , the common wedge damsel and the green hippopotamus and grasshoppers such as the white-edged grasshopper , nightingale grasshopper , brown grasshopper and spotted clubhoppers . Birds are represented by kingfisher , white wagtail , reed warbler and nightingale , for example . The nature reserve is a potential habitat for beavers and otters .

The nature reserve often borders on agricultural areas . In Tungeln , Hundsmühlen and Oldenburg it partly borders directly on the residential buildings.
