Basketball Bundesliga 1985/86

The 1986/87 season was the 21st season of the Basketball Bundesliga . The top division in German men's club basketball, which until 1990 was limited to the territory of West Germany without the GDR , was played in a league with eleven instead of the intended twelve teams.

Season Notes

  • BSC Saturn Cologne became champions of the 1986/87 season .
  • TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen won the cup for the 1986/87 season .
  • Promoted OSC Bremerhaven withdrew his team before the start of the season for financial reasons.
  • On one of the last game days in the relegation round, the BC Giants Osnabrück team boycotted the onward journey to the away game against SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg at a motorway service station . At this point in time the descent of Osnabrück was already certain and there were disagreements within the club as wages were not paid and there were rumors that the club was about to go bankrupt. Ludwigsburg had to cancel the game at very short notice and instead offered the audience a training game.
