history
Districts
Bankholzen was first mentioned in a document in 1050. In the middle of the 15th century it came under the rule of Bohlingen and from then on shared their fate. In the local area of Bankholzen there are two unexplained castle places , Burg Rusbühl and Burg Schlossbühl .
Iznang was first mentioned in a document as Utzenhofen in 13300 . While the western half of the village belonged to the Bohlingen rulership and thus went to the Constance Monastery as early as 1497 , the eastern half belonged to the Höri bailiwick , which was only acquired by the Constance bishops in 1535. The district was already a settlement area in the Neolithic Age . In February 2013, in the course of a building project, remnants of the Horgen cultural layer were found directly on the lake shore . In contrast to the previous lakeside settlements, the settlement was in an unusually high topographical location up to a maximum of 396 m above sea level. NHN .
Moos belonged to the Bohlingen rule , with which it went to the diocese of Constance in 1497 . When this lost its secular powers in the course of secularization and mediatization due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the area - and with it Moos - fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1803 .
Weiler used to belong to the Vogtei Höri, with which it came to the Diocese of Constance in 1535. Like all of its secular territory, the diocese had to cede Weiler in 1803, so that the place fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden . In the local area of Weiler there is an unexplained castle site, Burg Weiler .
Bettnang belonged to the Bohlingen rule , whose historical fate it shared. As early as 1934 the village was incorporated into Weiler. |
Grünenberg Castle and Monastery
The castle, later the Grünenberg monastery, was on a wooded hill in a side valley on the road from Weiler to Gaienhofen. A hermit hermitage near Grünenberg Castle is first mentioned in 1282. In the middle of the 14th century a Franciscan - Terziarinnenkloster was built . Although largely rebuilt after a fire in 1660, economic problems arose in the 18th century, which finally led to drastic measures from around 1785. This culminated in the abolition of the monastery in 1808. A wayside cross at the site of the monastery has been a reminder of the former Grünenberg monastery since 1895.
Population development since the 19th century
The population figures in the four municipalities were subject to great fluctuations in the 19th century , also due to emigration . They developed from a total of 763 inhabitants in 1808 through a temporary high of 1214 in 1864 to a number of 1094 at the end of the 19th century.
In the 20th century the population increased from 1472 in 1950, over 2150 at the time of the merger in 1974 to 2511 in 1987. Another significant increase took place in the last 20 years to over 3200 inhabitants.
History of the unified church
With effect from October 1, 1974, the municipalities of Bankholzen, Iznang, Moos and Weiler merged on June 18, 1974, following a corresponding resolution by the four municipal councils. On December 8, 1974, the first joint mayor, Alois Keller, was elected; on April 20, 1975, the first local and municipal council elections followed. During the first few years the co-determination of the districts was secured by a local council constitution , which was however dissolved at the end of the first electoral term because it was considered unnecessary.
The first joint investments were made to complete the sewer system, to secure the water supply and to improve traffic conditions. Further significant investments were made later in the construction of the Mooswald sports complex, which was opened to the public on June 25 and 26, 1988, and in the construction of the community center and the reconstruction of the town hall, which opened on August 29 and 30, 1992. Since then, there has been a constant improvement in the infrastructure, such as the expansion of the primary school in Weiler, the establishment of a consumer and beverage market or the conversion of the Bankholzer Torkel into an event location.
politics
Municipal council
In addition to the mayor as chairman, the municipality council has 14 members.
In the municipal council election on May 26, 2019 , the Free Voters' Association received six seats, the CDU four and the Red-Green List four.
mayor
In October 2014 Peter Kessler was re-elected for his third term. Kessler announced his early resignation in June 2018.
The new mayor election took place on November 18, 2018, but it did not yet produce a result because no candidate or female candidate achieved the required absolute majority . In the second ballot on December 2, 2018, a simple majority was sufficient. Patrick Krauss was elected, who was able to prevail against four competitors with 33.3% of the valid votes. The turnout was just under 68 percent. The term of office began on February 1, 2019.
Administrative association
The community belongs to the Höri community administration association based in Gaienhofen .
coat of arms
The coat of arms of the earlier municipality of Moos, which only encompasses the place itself, shows a red cross in silver, covered with a golden heart shield, in which a silver fish swimming upwards in a blue sloping beam. The coat of arms of the municipality of Moos after the municipality reform in 1974 shows a red cross in silver, covered with a blue heart shield, inside a silver fish swimming to the top right .
Partnerships
The municipality of Moos has had a partnership with Le Bourget-du-Lac on Lac du Bourget in France since 1995 . Friendly relationships between the Bankholzen Music Association and the municipality of Ovaro in the Italian province of Udine had previously not led to the establishment of partnerships due to structural differences and the distance.
Economy and Infrastructure
An important branch of the economy in the municipality is vegetable growing , which particularly characterizes the part of the municipality near the banks. Most of the other industrial and handicraft businesses are located in the Mooserstall industrial park in the Moos district.
Educational institutions
In the community there is a regular school in the form of the elementary school in Weiler, as well as the Hannah Arendt School in Iznang, a private, state-recognized school with offers corresponding to the elementary, secondary and learning disabled school . There is also the Catholic Kindergarten St. Blasius and the Kindergarten Villa Pfiffikus under community sponsorship.
