The Big6 European Football League 2017 is the 4th season of the Big6 European Football League . It began on April 22, 2017 with the group matches and ended on June 11, 2017 with the Eurobowl XXXI .

Attendees

For the first time, the Big6 took place without teams from Austria. The main reason for this are differences in the regulation of the use of import players between the AFBÖ and the Big6. An agreement on a regulation that is accepted by all sides could not be reached in the run-up to the 2017 season.

Group stage

Group A

In Group A, defending champion Braunschweig met the Amsterdam Crusaders and the Badalona Dracs. The Crusaders have already been in the Eurobowl five times and have won it twice, but the last participation in the finals was more than 20 years ago. The Dracs made it to one final each in the EFAF Cup and the European Football League . The Lions lived up to their role as favorites and entered the Eurobowl with two clear victories. The game between Amsterdam and Badalona only had statistical value.

Group B

With the Milano Seamen and the two German teams Frankfurt Universe and Berlin Rebels, not only three newcomers started in Group B in the Big6, it was the first time for all three teams that they took part in the competition for the Eurobowl. It was already clear before the tournament that there would be at least one new Eurobowl participant this year.

Despite the Seamen's opening victory over the Rebels, the Italians had to reach at least one draw in Frankfurt due to the close result of the game in order to have reasonably realistic chances of progressing. The clear victory of the Hessians gave the Berliners another chance to reach the Eurobowl with a clear home win. With 11:10 the victory was too low, so that Universe moved into the final despite the defeat in the last game.
