Bol is a bathing and holiday resort on the south coast of the Croatian island of Brač in central Dalmatia .
history
Bol was first mentioned in 1475 in a deed about a donation, through the deed the Klavica peninsula was given to the Dominicans . Bol and the entire island of Brač were spared from fighting during the war in Yugoslavia due to their island location. In the period from 1992 to 1996, the Croatian Catholic Theological College Vrhbosna from Sarajevo was located in Bol. Classes took place in the spacious rooms of the world-famous Dominican monastery. During the civil war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the theological college with 70 students and 15 professors moved to Bol. In 1994, the former Upper Bishop of Bosnia-Herzegovina Vinko Puljić was appointed cardinal by Pope John Paul II . During this time, Bol was the center of meetings between bishops and priests, as well as religious sisters from all over Europe and the world. A hotel near the monastery was used as refugee accommodation during the Yugoslav war.
