Casco is a town in Cumberland County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 3742 inhabitants in 2944 households on an area of 98.4 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Cacso has an area of 98.4 km² , of which 80.9 km² consists of land and 7.5 km² of water .
Geographical location
Cacso is in the northern part of Cumberland County. Androscoggin County borders with Poland to the northeast . In the northwest the Oxford County with Otisfield . Several lakes protrude in the area of the Town Casco and in the area. Thompson Lake borders in the northeast, and Pleasant Lake rises up to the area in the northwest . Parker Pond is centrally located , with Coffee Pond to the south . In the east of the Crescent Lake and in the south the largest lake, the Sebago Lake . The surface of the area is hilly with several elevations. The largest is the 299 m high Rattlesnake Mountain .

history
The land was given by the Massachusetts Bay Colony as a grant to Captain William Raymond and his men in 1767 in gratitude for their service at the Battle of Québec under Sir William Phips . Until the founding of the town of Casco on March 18, 1841, it belonged to the town of Raymond.
The surface is hard and uneven, not particularly suitable as arable land. There are several lakes in Casco whose drains have been good locations for watermills. There were four sawmills, four grist mills, four clapboard factories, a wagon factory, and a tannery in Casco. In 1832 the Cumberland and Oxford Canal was built, connecting Casco with Portland . Steamships carried tourists and cargo from 1840 onwards.
Today, the local economy is made up of tourism businesses, including two holiday complexes, a golf course, various restaurants and bed and breakfasts . In addition to tourism, there are local sawmills and a construction industry. The local economy consists of many small businesses, retail and service providers including handicrafts and art galleries.

The US Highway 302 runs through the southwest of the Town. It connects Casco with Portland in the south and Bridgton in the north. In a north-south direction, Maine State Route 121 continues to the east and Maine State Route 11 in an east-west direction .
