Baldwin is a town in Cumberland County in the state of Maine in the United States . Baldwin is located on the southwest shore of Sebago Lake , in the southwestern part of Cumberland County. In 2010 there lived 1525 inhabitants in 588 households on an area of 94.1 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Baldwin has an area of 94.1 km² , of which 91.5 km² consists of land and 2.6 km² of water .
Geographical location
Baldwin is on the southwest shore of Sebago Lake . In the west the Oxford County borders with the Town of Hiram and in the south York County borders with Cornish and Limington . The Saco River flows in a southerly direction and forms the western and southern limits of the area of the town and the county. The surface of the area is hilly, with several peaks that run into a range of hills to Sebago Lake . The highest point is the 416 m high Douglas Mountain to the east of Baldwin. There are several small lakes in the Baldwin Town area.

history
The area, called Flintstown Plantation, was given as a grant in 1774 to the survivors of Captain John Flint's company of Concord, Massachusetts. The town was founded on June 23, 1802 and named after Loammi Baldwin , an early settler after whom the Baldwin apple is named.
The soil conditions in Baldwin are very different, there are areas with good arable soil for grain and hay. However, Baldwin is known for its orchards and there is a factory in East Baldwin for drying apples. There was also a grain factory. The water power of the streams was used to operate mills. During the drought, the Saco Water Power Company at Great Falls on the Saco River was able to regulate the water used to operate the mills in Saco and Biddeford.

Culture and sights
Buildings
Two buildings in Baldwin are listed buildings and have been added to the National Register of Historic Places .
The Burnell Tavern was built in 1737. It is the oldest building in the rural community and a local landmark. Today it is used as a private residence, the building cannot be visited. It was listed as a Historic Monument in 1983 with the register number 83003638 and entered on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Valley Lodge is a historic house at the Saddleback Road in the rural part of Baldwin. It was built in 1792 by one of Baldwin's first settlers. It is one of the oldest surviving homes in Cumberland County. The Valley Lodge was placed under monument protection in 1977 with the register number 77000138.

Maine State Route 113 runs through Baldwin in a north-south direction . It connects Baldwin with Freyburg in the north and Standish in the south. Maine State Route 107 branches off from here in the direction of Sebago in the northeast .
Baldwin is on the Portland and Ogdensburg Railroad .
Public facilities
The Brown Memorial Library is located in Baldwin . It was founded in 1907 and the building that houses the library was built in 1908 in the Tudor Revival style .
The closest hospital for Baldwin residents is in Bridgeton.

Baldwin is part of the Maine School Administrative District 55 with Cornish, Hiram, Parsonsfield and Porter .
