Cerveteri (wine)

With the name Cerveteri DOC , Italian white , rosé and red wines (either dry or sweet as well as frizzante ) are produced in the Lazio region . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1974 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

  • Cerveteri Bianco (dry or sweet or as a frizzante ): must consist of at least 50% Trebbiano Toscano grape varieties (locally also called "Procanico") and a maximum of 35% Malvasia Bianca di Candia . A maximum of 15% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added.
  • Cerveteri Rosso (dry or sweet): must consist of at least 60% of the Sangiovese and Montepulciano grape varieties in the mixture , with each of the grape varieties must contain at least 25%. Furthermore, it must contain at least 35% Merlot . A maximum of 15% of other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added.
  • Cerveteri Rosato (also known as Frizzante): The current version of the denomination does not contain any regulations on the composition of the grape varieties.
  • Cerveteri Trebbiano or Cerveteri Procanico : Must contain at least 85% Trebbiano Toscano. A maximum of 15% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added.
