Career
Chris Butler began his career as a hockey player with the Sioux City Musketeers from the United States Hockey League , for which he was active for a total of two years from 2003 to 2005. During the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , the defender was selected as the 96th player in the fourth round by the Buffalo Sabers . The following three years he played, however, first for the ice hockey team of the University of Denver in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , which he left prematurely in 2008 because he had been signed by the Sabers.
From the 2008/09 season Butler was both for the NHL team of the Sabers on the ice, as well as for their farm team from the American Hockey League (AHL), the Portland Pirates . The American made his debut in the National Hockey League on December 19, 2008 in a game against the Los Angeles Kings .
On June 25, 2011, the Sabers gave him together with Paul Byron in exchange for Robyn Regehr , Aleš Kotalík and a second-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to the Calgary Flames . After three years in Calgary, Butler moved to the St. Louis Blues in July 2014 and signed a one-year contract there. This was extended twice, with the defender was mainly used in the AHL, the Chicago Wolves and the San Antonio Rampage . After the 2018/19 season, he finally ended his active career, in which he had played a total of 414 NHL games and recorded 87 points scorer.

At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , Butler was part of the US national team and won the bronze medal with it.
