Christopher Deshun "Chris" Jones (* 3. July 1994 in Houston , Mississippi ) is an American American football player at the position of the defensive tackles . He played college football for Mississippi State University and has been with the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL) since 2016 .

college

From 2013 to 2015, Jones played college football . He attended Mississippi State University , where he played for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the NCAA Division I FBS. He played in 38 Bulldogs games over the three years. After the 2015 season, Jones announced that he was giving up a possible fourth year of college and enrolling for the 2016 NFL Draft.

NFL

Jones was selected 37th by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2nd round in the 2016 NFL Draft . In his rookie season, Jones was used in all games, including eleven as a starter. He scored 28 tackles and two sacks .

On the second day of the season in 2017 against the Philadelphia Eagles scored three Jones sack, forced two fumbles and intercepted a pass ( interception ), for which he as AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He finished the season with 32 tackles, 6.5 sacks, seven passes defended and four forced fumbles.

In the 2018 season , Jones recorded at least one sack in eleven consecutive games, setting a new NFL record. With a total of 15.5 sacks, he led his team in these statistics.

On December 17, 2019, Jones was first nominated for the Pro Bowl . With the Chiefs he won the Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers with 31:20. He forced the first turnover of the game when he put 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo under pressure, who then threw an interception into the arms of Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland . He was also able to hit an opponent's pass to the ground in two important places.

After the Chiefs were initially unable to agree on a long-term contract with Jones, they put him on the franchise tag before the 2020 season . On July 14, Jones signed a four-year $ 80 million deal in Kansas City.
