The Chrysler TEVan is an electric vehicle that was produced by Chrysler from 1993 to 1995 based on the Chrysler Town & Country (Type AS) . The TEVan was built in Ontario , Canada .

history

In 1991 Chrysler began developing the electrically powered minivan . They produced the first concept vehicle for the TEVan in 1992. The car had a range of 120 miles. The world's first electric minivan was introduced in 1993. The TEVan was mainly sold to energy suppliers. The second generation of the vehicle based on the Chrysler Town & Country (Type NS) was called EPIC (Electric Powered Intraurban Commuter Vehicle) and was first sold in 1997. This version was equipped with a lead accumulator . In 1999 the EPIC was offered in New York and California.

The first generation of the TEVans used either nickel-iron accumulator - or nickel-cadmium accumulator - batteries . Only 56 vehicles were made and sold at approximately $ 120,000 each. The TEVan offers space for five adults and has an empty weight of 2295  kg . The minivan has a 180- volt - battery . Nickel-iron batteries were installed in half of the cars and nickel-cadmium batteries were installed in the other half. Air conditioning, power steering and electromotive brakes were standard, and there was also a large cargo space. The TEVan has a 54 kilowatt DC motor and the vehicle reached a top speed of 65 mph (110  km / h ). It was equipped with a two-speed automatic transmission . The peak power was 70  hp (52 kW); the continuous output 35 hp (26 kW). In 1998, the Chrysler TEVan met the requirements of a California zero emission vehicle (ZEV).
