Cosa is a district of the city of Southern Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .
Geographical location
Cosa is located about ten kilometers southeast of the district town of Köthen (Anhalt) in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district . In the east of the town, the town of Pösigk is directly adjacent to another suburb of the town of Southern Anhalt. Ziebigk is north of Cosa, Prosigk to the northwest, Fernsdorf to the west and Gnetsch to the south.
history
The first written mention of the village comes from 1315 . Heinrich von Ulsendorf is named as the owner . He gave the Vorwerk Cosa to the prioress of the Coswig women's monastery, Hedwig von Anhalt . After her death, the property passed to the monastery. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Cosa was owned by the von Rabiel family , after which it became royal property . In the Thirty Years' War also Cosa was not spared: 1631 was a war damages amounting to 423 thalers, recorded in 1637 by the amount of 119 thalers and 6 dimes. Like most places in today's city of Southern Anhalt, the place has historically always belonged to Anhalt .
On July 1, 1950, Pösigk and Ziebigk were incorporated into Cosa. On January 1, 2005, Cosa and its two districts were incorporated into Prosigk . On January 1, 2010 Prosigk again merged with 17 other communities to form the city of Southern Anhalt .
Surname
The name Cosa is possibly of Slavic origin. There Koza means goat .

After one kilometer in a westerly direction, federal highway 183 can be reached via Cosaer Straße .
Until the shutdown of the railway in 1946, Cosa had a station on the Köthen – Radegast line of the Dessau-Radegast-Köthener Bahn .
