Craig Darby (born September 26, 1972 in Oneida , New York ) is a retired American ice hockey player ( striker ) who played for the Montréal Canadiens , New York Islanders , Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League as well the Augsburger Panther played in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Darby began his career at Providence College in Rhode Island . In his first year he was drawn by the Montréal Canadiens in 43rd place in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft . However, he played another season in Providence before he was used for the then Canadiens farm team, the Fredericton Canadiens .
After two successful seasons for the Fredericton Canadiens, his first appearance in the NHL came . 1994/95 he completed ten games for the Canadiens before moving to the New York Islanders team , together with Kirk Muller and Mathieu Schneider in exchange for Pierre Turgeon and Vladimir Malachow . 1996 came the move to the Philadelphia Flyers where Darby completed most of the games for the Philadelphia Phantoms farm team .
In 1998 he was drawn by the Nashville Predators in an expansion draft , but returned to the Montréal Canadiens in 1999 without having played a game for the Predators. Back in Montreal, Darby had his best time in the NHL. In 154 games he was able to score 45 points. In the 2002/03 season he moved to the New Jersey Devils where he did not prevail and spent most of the AHL with the Albany River Rats farm team . Even after moving to Tampa Bay Lightning and later to the Vancouver Canucks , he played the entire season in the AHL.
After his contract ended in the summer of 2006, Darby moved to the German club Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League . For the 2007/08 season he signed a contract with HC Innsbruck and moved to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga . Following this season, the American ended his professional career.
