DFB League Cup 1997

The 1997 DFB League Cup was the second edition of a competition of this name in Germany, but from now on not comparable with the premiere of the competition in 1972/73 in terms of number of participants and mode. Participants were the first six teams from the previous Bundesliga season , including the DFB Cup winner VfB Stuttgart. FC Bayern Munich won with a 2-0 win against VfB Stuttgart in the final in Leverkusen, making them the second league cup winner in history and the first winner of the competition under the new mode. The most successful goalscorer with two goals was Giovane Élber from the winner FC Bayern Munich.
