Saturday December 1, 1917
- Berlin : The German Reichstag passes a new war loan bill as a budgetary law against the votes of the Independent Social Democrats (USPD)
- Christiania (Norway, now Oslo ): At the end of a conference, the Nordic monarchies Denmark , Sweden and Norway affirmed their neutrality in the ongoing war
- Vienna : In a conversation with the “ Neue Freie Presse ” General Field Marshal Erich Ludendorff explains that the Russian Revolution is a consequence of the German warfare
Monday 3rd December 1917
- Negotiations between the Central Powers and Soviet Russia on a separate peace begin
- Paris: The only solo exhibition with works by Amedeo Modigliani opens in Berthe Weill's gallery .
Tuesday, December 4, 1917

Petrograd : The Swedish legation declares its willingness to try to mediate peace between Russia and the German Reich.
- The ambassadors of the Entente states have informed the Russian government that if there is a separate peace, political, financial and military aid for the country will be suspended.
Wednesday December 5, 1917
- Moscow / Berlin: Temporary armistice on the Eastern Front for an initial ten days
- Lisbon : military coup of Sidónio Pais in Portugal (former President Bernardino Machado in exile)
Thursday December 6, 1918
- Finland :
- After the October election , Pehr Evind Svinhufvud of the Young Finland Party is the first Prime Minister of independent Finland. He led a center-right coalition made up of the Young Finnish Party, the Swedish People's Party , the Finnish Party and the Landbund against the Social Democrats .
- The Finnish Declaration of Independence (Finnish: Suomen itsenäisyysjulistus) was passed by the Finnish Parliament on December 6, 1917. This was preceded by a six-day general strike in November. This ended Finland's status as an autonomous Grand Duchy within the former Russian Empire . Finland became a republic .
- Halifax on Canada's east coast: the Mont Blanc, a French munitions ship, and the Imo, a Belgian ship flying the Norwegian flag, collided in front of the port. The Mont Blanc caught fire and the explosives caused a huge explosion . At least 1,946 people were killed and another 9,000 injured. The explosion triggered a tidal wave and violent earth tremors.

- London : UK House of Commons adopts franchise reform that gives men the age of 20, soldiers age 18 and women age 30 the right to vote ( Representation of the People Act )

Tuesday December 11, 1917
- Vilnius : proclamation of the independent state of Lithuania ; Separation from Russia. The state is under “German protection”.
Wednesday December 12, 1917
- Washington : declaration of war of the United States of America to Austria-Hungary
- The Central Powers and Romania agree an armistice
- At least 543 people die in a train accident near Modane in France
- Berlin: Foundation of the standards committee of German industry . It defines the German Industry Standard (DIN).
Thursday December 13, 1917
- Berlin: The SPD magazine , “ Vorwärts ”, publishes an appeal for electoral reform that criticizes the lack of women's suffrage .
- Munich : The Bavarian police authorities tighten border controls to prevent food from being brought from Bavaria to other parts of Germany.
- Berlin: the first German airline, the “ Deutsche Luft-Reederei GmbH (DLR)”, is founded.

- The armistice on the Eastern Front from December 5th will be extended
Tuesday December 18, 1917
- Berlin: Founding of Universum Film AG (Ufa) in Berlin as a propaganda instrument of the OHL ( Reichswehr ; see the Image and Film Office , "BUFA" founded in January 1917 )
Thursday December 20, 1917
- Moscow: The Soviet council government ( Council of People's Commissars ) resolves to found a secret police (Cheka)

- Brest-Litovsk : beginning of peace negotiations between Soviet Russia and the Central Powers ( German Empire , Austria-Hungary , Bulgaria and Ottoman Empire )

- Moscow: The Soviet Council of People's Commissars recognizes Finland's independence .
