action

Dickie Roberts is a former child star aged 35. His mother left him as a child after he discontinued his television series, his father even earlier. His fame is only enough to get beaten up at celebrity boxing and become a parker. His girlfriend Cindy leaves him when his car goes up in flames. Dickie wants to star in Rob Reiner's new film to make a comeback. Because of his abnormal behavior, he doesn't get a role. With the advance payment for his autobiography, he wants to rent a room with a family to find out what a normal childhood is. George, who has withdrawn to his role as breadwinner, rents him a place as a child for $ 20,000.

George's wife Grace and his children Sam and Sally reject Dickie and push him into the tree house. When Dickie turns the tree house into a disco, he begins to find access to the children. He teaches Sally to dance and helps Sam by driving away several schoolyard thugs. When he ruthlessly defends Grace against attacks by the neighbor and supports her application as an interior designer, she wants him out of the house. Dickie realizes that he wanted to bring his mother back by making a comeback. When the family dog hauls in the neighbors' rabbit dead, Grace realizes she needs Dickie's help. He styles the dead animal and puts it back in its cage. The neighbors are fleeing the house because they buried it two days before. Grace is now ready to show Dickie how to live as a normal person.

Dickie is again not very successful in children's games. Grace fails to explain the script to him, in which the main character has to choose between material wealth and closeness to his beloved. Cindy wants to return to Dickie and George rents out the study to her. But Dickie is more interested in his family than Cindy. As a surrogate father, he helps Sam woo the new neighbor's daughter. Dickie is offered the role after his agent donates a kidney for it. He doesn't want to leave his family for six months and cancels the role at short notice. Cindy and George ran away with his money. Dickie produces a sitcom about his own life and marries Grace.
