Diyadin ( Armenian Տատէոն , transliteration: Tatēon ; kurd .: Giyadîn ) is a district town and a district in the eastern Anatolian province of Ağrı . The district town is home to around 48 percent of the district's population.

The district is located in the southeast of Agri Province and internally borders the Taşlıçay districts in the west and Doğubeyazıt in the north and east. Externally (outside the provincial borders) it borders the province of Van in the south . In addition to the district town, there are 62 villages ( Köy ) in the district with an average population of 354 inhabitants. Two of the villages have more than a thousand inhabitants: Ulukent (1,312) and Hacıhalit (1,011 inhabitants). Twelve villages have fewer than 100 inhabitants.

The most important river in the district is the Murat , a source river of the Euphrates . Well-known mountains in the district are the Tendürek Dağı and the Aladağ . Both are of volcanic origin. Due to the height of Diyadin there are no forests, but steppe vegetation .
