Eberechi Oluchi "Ebere" Eze (born June 29, 1998 in Greenwich ) is an English football player of Nigerian descent. The winger is currently under contract with the first division club Crystal Palace and has been England's U21 international since November 2019 .

Career

society

Eze started playing football at Millwall FC , from whose youth academy he was fired in the summer of 2016. He then worked part-time at Tesco and focused on his studies. The auditions at Fulham and Reading FC ended unsuccessfully and Arsenal FC officials described him as too small.

In August 2016, he completed a trial with the Queens Park Rangers , where he impressed sporting director Chris Ramsey and signed a contract. There he first played for the reserve. On January 7, 2017, he made his debut in a 2-1 home defeat in the third round of the FA Cup . He started but injured himself early in the game and had to be replaced by Yeni Ngbakoto in the 18th minute of the game . This was his only one for the first team in the 2016/17 season .

On August 30, 2017, Ebere Eze moved to fourth division Wycombe Wanderers on loan until the end of the year , where he was supposed to collect match practice in professional football. He made his debut on September 9 (6th matchday) in the 0-0 draw against AFC Newport County , when he came on after 79 minutes for Matt Bloomfield . Eze made it into the starting line-up after a short time. On October 7th (matchday 12) he scored his first two goals of the season in a 3-1 away win against Cambridge United . In 20 league games he met in five games by January.

After his return to the Rangers, he made his breakthrough there in March 2018 under head coach Ian Holloway . There he met on March 10 (37th matchday) in a 1-0 win in the home game against AFC Sunderland for the first time in the EFL Championship. In the remainder of the 2017/18 season he played in 16 league games, in which he scored two goals and one assist.

In the following 2018/19 season , he retained his status as a regular player. Under the new coach Steve McClaren he received the jersey number 10, which was worn before him by the club legends Rodney Marsh and Stan Bowles or, more recently, by Adel Taarabt . On August 7, 2018, he signed a new three-year contract with the Superhoops . He scored his first goal of the season on August 11 (2nd matchday) in a 2-1 home defeat by Sheffield United . During this season he played 42 league games in which he scored four goals and prepared four more goals.

In the following 2019/20 season , Ebere Eze developed into one of the most feared offensive players in the EFL Championship, which is why he was also able to arouse the interest of various first division clubs . On October 19, 2019 (matchday 12), he pocketed two penalties in the away game against Hull City in the closing stages and promoted his team to a 3-2 win with his first brace. On July 8, 2020 (42nd matchday), he played his 100th league game for the Londoners in the 0-1 away defeat against Wigan Athletic . With the Rangers, who spent the entire season in secure midfield, he experienced an excellent season with 14 goals and eight assists in 46 league appearances.

On August 28, 2020, Eze moved to the first division club Crystal Palace , where he signed a five-year contract.

National team

Due to his Nigerian descent, Ebere Eze can also play for the national soccer team of the West African state. The England- born offensive player trained with the Nigeria UK team in London in March 2017 , a selection from which youth players who grew up in England can recommend themselves for the Nigerian national team.

On October 5, 2018, he was nominated for the first time for the English U20 national team.He made his debut on October 11 in a 2-1 win over Italy in the U20 Elite League.

He has been the England U21 international since November 2019 .
