Elephunk is the third studio album by the American hip-hop band The Black Eyed Peas , with which they achieved their worldwide breakthrough. It was also the first album on which Stacie "Fergie" Ferguson was represented. In Germany it was published on September 22, 2003. It was produced by Ron Fair and band member Will.i.am. A total of four singles were released from Elephunk, of which the first single, Where Is the Love? along with Justin Timberlake , became a number 1 hit worldwide .
Single releases
After “Shut Up” was planned as the first single from Elephunk, it was decided to play Where Is The Love? (feat. Justin Timberlake ) as first single to be released. The reason for this was on the one hand the text and on the other hand the fact that one wanted to avoid an overpresence of Justin Timberlake in the media, since he was just in the release phase of his debut album Justified . Therefore, the labels of the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlakes agreed that he would not be mentioned in the video for the single, nor as a participating artist on the single. Furthermore it was the first single of the Black Eyed Peas together with the new band member Fergie.
In the US, "Where Is The Love?" Was released on June 16, 2003 and reached number 8 on the Billboard charts . In Germany it was published on September 8, 2003 and reached number 1 in the respective single charts in Switzerland and over ten other countries. In addition, "Where Is The Love?" Was nominated at the 46th Grammy Awards in the categories "Record of the Year" and "Best Rap / Sung Collaboration".
- shut up
Shut Up was the second worldwide single from Elephunk, but it was not released in the United States. In terms of charts, it was not much less successful than the first release and also reached number 1 in more than ten countries, including Germany.
- Hey mum
Hey mom , feat. Tippa Irie , was the third single from Elephunk. Although it was unable to follow up on its two predecessors in terms of success, it was also a top 5 hit in several countries overall. She was best known for her use in a 2004 iPod commercial, as well as the movies ... and then came Polly and Garfield , in which she was played.
- Let's get it started
Let's Get It Started was the fourth and final single from the Elephunk album. It was the least successful single from Elephunk and achieved top 20 placements on average.
The original title is Let's Get Retarded , which means something like “Let's get retarded” in German. Although it had nothing to do with the psychological or mental state of a person in the sense of the Black Eyed Peas, the record company decided to change the title to “Let's Get It Started” in order to avoid heavy criticism .
