The 2019 European elections in Croatia were the third direct election of members of the European Parliament in Croatia. It took place on May 26, 2019.

In Croatia, 11 seats were initially awarded in the European Parliament , but 12 seats were elected. A mandate holder from Croatia will move into the European Parliament after the United Kingdom has left the EU .

The threshold for parties and lists was 5%.

Electoral system

Twelve MPs were elected nationwide by proportional representation with a preferential voting system .

In the 2014 European elections , three party coalitions won seats. The patriotic coalition led by the conservative HDZ achieved 41.4% and six seats, four of which went to the HDZ and one each to the farmers' party HSS and the national conservative HSP-AS . The Kukuriku coalition of the social democratic SDP received 29.9% and 4 seats, three of which went to the SDP and one to the left-wing liberal HNS . The green ORaH , who competed individually, got 9.4% and 1 seat.

In the Croatian parliamentary elections in 2015 and 2016 , the entry of new parties into parliament did not result in a clear majority. A minority government of HDZ and HNS has been in power since June 2017 .

    *Marijana Petir was elected as a candidate for the HSS in the 2014 European elections in Croatia and was expelled from the party in 2017. But she was an independent MEP from 2017 to 2019.
