Fishing tower

The fishing tower is located in the Rheydt district in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The tower was built in 1928. It was entered under No. B 111 on March 2, 1989 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

location

In the middle of the circular intersection of Nordstrasse and Brucknerallee stands the “monument” of the avenue , “the fishing tower”. The avenue runs in a south-north direction from Rheydt, center (market) to the Mönchengladbach border. The fisherman's tower is at the center of the avenue, which is different in shape. From the intersection the avenue is widened and the two-lane traffic is separated by the promenade . Overall, Brucknerallee is an intact residential street close to the center with representative buildings from the development phases around 1895, 1905 and 1935, interspersed with buildings from the post-war period.

architecture

The tower with clocks in the center of the newly created roundabout at the intersection of Brucknerallee and Nordstraße was built in 1928 according to plans by the city architect Walter Fischer . It replaces the Bismarck monument , which until 1920 marked the center of the boulevard built around the turn of the century . It is a building that appears to have come about by chance and primarily served the purpose of illuminating the intersection.
