The Bodrum-Milas Airport , and Milas-Bodrum Airport or Bodrum ( Turkish , among other Bodrum-Milas Havalimanı , Milas-Bodrum Havalimanı or Bodrum Havalimanı ) is a Turkish commercial airport with international status near the tourist towns Bodrum and Milas in the province of Muğla . It is operated by TAV Airports Holding .

In 2019 over 4.3 million passengers were handled at the airport.

history

The airport was opened in 1997 and is used exclusively for civil purposes. Previously, the construction had been discussed for years, first and foremost about the location, as numerous population organizations and nature conservationists rejected the originally targeted location, a little closer to the coast, and ultimately prevented it. The construction of the airport was seen as a livelihood for tourism development in the region.

The first airport building went into operation on April 1, 1997 and was used as a domestic terminal from 1998 to 2012. The second terminal was inaugurated for international traffic on April 30, 1998. Due to the sharp increase in passenger numbers, the international terminal was replaced by a larger building in 2012.

Basic information

The airport has passenger facilities with a capacity of 5,000,000 passengers per year and a 3000 meter long and paved runway with an instrument landing system (ILS). The apron has a size of 800 × 200 meters and can accommodate 28 commercial aircraft. A 3000 meter long taxiway runs parallel to the single runway, which increases the efficiency of the runway.

Terminals

The airport's passenger facilities are made up of two terminals, a terminal for international traffic and a domestic terminal. In addition to their design and appearance, the two terminals differ primarily in terms of handling through the different passport controls. Both terminals are about 10 minutes' walk from each other.

Domestic Terminal 2,000,000 16,500 m² 400 / 13,500 m² 26th 4th

The domestic terminal has been in operation since April 1998, with international flights operating until 2012. The former international terminal was replaced by a new building, which was planned and constructed between 2006 and 2012 using a build-operate-transfer procedure. Until recently, the state operator was always responsible for construction and operation at the airport, only smaller companies such as ground handlers ( Havaş and Çelebi Holding are currently active) could be private. TAV Airports Holding has been the operator of the inland terminal since July 15, 2014, and of the international terminal since October 22, 2015.

The new international terminal opened on May 16, 2012. The new building includes information desks, lost property, VIP and CIP rooms, waiting areas for people whose entry is denied, prayer rooms, childcare facilities, duty free shops, restaurants, medical facilities Service, car rental companies, banks and post offices.

Connection

The city of Bodrum assigned to him is around 35 kilometers away, Milas around 18 kilometers. The airport can be reached by taxi, car or coach and airport shuttle bus. The airport is connected to the D-330 highway, which allows both places to be reached quickly and easily.

The airport bus is operated by the Havaş company. The departure times are based on the departure and arrival of the planes and the bus shuttles between the airport and Bodrum city center. A one-way trip takes about 45 minutes and costs about ten Turkish Lira each way . Various intermediate stops are also served on the route between the airport and the city.

Airlines and Destinations

In addition to domestic traffic, the airport is also determined by international tourist traffic. This leads to numerous frequencies flown seasonally over the summer months.

Most of the frequencies go to Great Britain in the summer, where several scheduled and charter airlines vie for passengers. The German-speaking area can also show seasonal scheduled flight connections to Bodrum. For example, Condor from Frankfurt and Tuifly come to Bodrum in summer . Other international destinations are in Central Europe, such as France or the Netherlands, and in Eastern Europe. Are represented, for example, Bulgaria Air , Corendon Airlines , easyJet , Transavia , Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines .

Most domestic flights are flown all year round, with denser frequencies in summer. Numerous destinations are flown to, for example Pegasus Airlines , Turkish Airlines or their subsidiary AnadoluJet .
