Focus is a 2015 American film directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. It stars Will Smith , Margot Robbie and Rodrigo Santoro . The cinema release in the USA was on February 27, 2015. In Germany, the film opened on March 5, 2015.

Nicky Spurgeon is a professional con man and con artist. In a nightclub he meets the attractive Jess Barrett, who tries to seduce and steal from him. Nicky quickly gets to her number and teaches her never to lose sight of the essentials ( focus ). Meanwhile he steals from her . He decides to teach her the craft of deception and deception. Jess learns quickly and the two make a good team. However, when they develop feelings for each other, Nicky ends their collaboration.
Three years later, Nicky works for the motorsport billionaire Rafael Garriga, only the team of the Australian businessman McEwen stands in the way to win the championship. Nicky pretends to have been pissed off by Garriga's team and wants to sell McEwen a fake version of the EXR, a software for fuel combustion. This leads the driver astray by displaying incorrect values and thereby slows the car by a few tenths of a second during the race. In fact, however, he sells the real software behind Garriga's back to all competitors and earns 27 million euros in the process. At a pre-race party, he meets Jess again, who is now apparently Garriga's girlfriend. Reignite their feelings for one another so that they ultimately come back together. Garriga's chief security officer, Owens, becomes suspicious and follows Nicky and Jess.
While Nicky is waiting for Jess in his hotel room, he receives a message that he is in danger and should leave the room immediately. Nicky and Jess try to escape, but they are captured by Garriga's men and taken to his workshop. Jess admits she wanted to seduce Garriga with the intention of stealing his precious watch. Owens shoots Nicky in the chest and Garriga runs away to avoid being associated with Nicky's death.
After Garriga leaves, Owens reveals that he is Nicky's father, Bucky. He assures Jess that he has not hit any of the major vital arteries and drives Nicky and Jess to the hospital. He takes all the money that Nicky has thrown away and disappears with the advice never to lose sight of the essentials. Supported by Jess, Nicky drags himself to the entrance of the hospital. He smiles when he discovers Garriga's valuable watch on her wrist, which she obviously managed to steal from him at the very last second.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Watson were originally intended to cast the two main roles . When both were eliminated, Brad Pitt was offered the role, but he declined. The cast with Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart failed because Affleck was busy with other projects. After Affleck's rejection, Stewart also got out, so Margot Robbie was hired.
The directing duo and production designer Beth Mickle set out in Buenos Aires in June 2013 in search of locations. A second trip with producers Denise Di Novi and Mark Scoon led to later filming locations in San Telmo , Puerto Madero , Barracas , Retiro , Recoleta , Palermo and Buenos Aires-Ezeiza Airport . The shooting began on September 14, 2013. New Orleans and were continued in Buenos Aires on 19 November. The last day of shooting in Argentina was December 10th. The shooting took place in New York on December 17th .
Neil Smith had made several suggestions at the Forum of the Digital Cinema Society in December 2013 that most of the film should be cut in Final Cut Pro X. This would make Focus the largest production that has been cut with the program so far.
