The Football League Fourth Division 1971/72 was the 14th season of the fourth highest English football league . The top four teams were promoted to the Football League Third Division .

AFC Barrow was replaced by Hereford United in the following season . The Northampton Town , Stockport County and Crewe Alexandra , also among the last four , received enough votes in the reelection process of the league association to be allowed to participate again in the Fourth Division in the following 1972/73 season.
