Franz Gleißner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Johannes Gleißner ( baptized April 6, 1761 in Neustadt an der Waldnaab ; † September 28, 1818 in Munich ) was a German composer , court musician at the Munich court (now the Bavarian State Orchestra ), singer, author of a Mozart directory and co-inventor of lithographic sheet music printing (see Notation ).

Baptism matriculation - birth certificate Franz Gleißner: (1761) Aprilis The 6to Aprilis per Cooperatore baptizatus est Franciscus Joannis Stephani / Gleißner, et Annae Margarethae natae Dozauerin / ex Neustatt conjugum filius legitimus. Levans fuit Franciscus Trommer / civis et lanio in Neustatt.
On April 6th was baptized by the cooperator (auxiliary chaplain): Franziskus, the legal son of the married couple Johann Stephan Gleißner and Anna Margaretha (Gleißner), née Dozauer, from Neustadt. The godfather was Franziskus Trommer, citizen and master butcher in Neustadt .

Life

Franz (middle name: Johann, Seraph, Xaver) Gleissner (Gleisner, Gleissner, Kleissner, pseudonym: Francesco Rensielg) was the "legal son of Johann Stephan Gleißner ( linen weaver / gardener ) and his wife Anna Margaretha, nee. Dozauer ”from Neustadt an der Waldnaab , the royal seat of the Bohemian noble family of Lobkowitzers .

His musical talent was recognized early on. Therefore, at the age of eleven, he came to Amberg at the “ Churfürstliche Jesuiten-Gymnasium ”, “where he showed an extraordinary inclination for music and poetry”, “played the double bass in the music choir, and was also a good singer. His first composition was a Mass for the Soul (Requiem), which he made for the exequies of Elector Max Joseph in 1778, a work that betrayed thoroughness and a great spirit appropriate to the matter ”. In the Catalogus Studiosorum 1773 Gleißner is listed as "Kleissner Franc (iscus) Neostadiens (is) Palat (inus)" ( Amberg State Archives ).

Around 1780, at the age of 19, “he went to Munich to complete his philosophical studies there”. He continued his education at the electoral seminary (= Domus Gregoriana). "The multitude of good singers and musicians [...] stimulated him to make a lot of pieces of clay from all genres" (Lipowsky). Gleißner's Singspiele Der Äpfeldieb or the Treasure Digger (February 12, 1783), Leonhard Ritt, the Bänkelsänger (May 8, 1785) and Der Erntekranz (June 16, 1785) were performed in the Faberbräu in Munich . The lyricist (s) of the last two Singspiele is / are not known, perhaps it was Gleißner himself with "his extraordinary inclination for poetry".

During his military service from 1784 to the end of 1789, he married Maria Anna Pangratz on October 22, 1786 (Pongratz, Pongraz). In the marriage certificate he is called "musician (musicus) of the famous regiment of the illustrious Duke Maximilian von Zweibrücken". In a letter dated July 5, 1806, Gleißner wrote that he had been “ Kapellmeister for six years at the very highest of the Prince Max Regiment”.

In 1791 he was accepted as an "accessist" by the double bass players of the electoral court orchestra in Munich. In December 1794 Gleißner wrote to the Elector: “Under the highest of the military, I played field music for six years; but since I left there, I am with the Elector. Court music was graciously employed as a double bass player. For the third year alone I have been serving with all imaginable zeal and precision food, but unfortunately! no salary whatsoever. ”From 1795 Gleißner was given a permanent job, as the court double bass player Leonard Hueber (still listed in the“ Court and State Calendar for the Year 1795 ”) had died, and paid 300 guilders a year.

In 1796 he came into contact with Alois Senefelder (also Aloys Senefelder), who wanted to use lithography to print sheet music. Gleißner supported Senefelder financially and supported him with all his might. Senefelder experimented and made pressure tests with Gleißner's notes. In 1796 the first music lithograph was created with Gleißner's work Feldmarsch der Churpfalzbayer'schen troops . As a result, together they founded the company Gleißner & Senefelder in Munich: At that time copperplate notes cost five times as much as lithograph notes.

In 1799, Alois Senefelder and Franz Gleißner and their heirs obtained a “Privilegium exclusivum” for a period of 15 years from the Bavarian Elector Maximilian IV. Joseph . Your lithographic printing company now operated under the name Königliche Soleprivilegirte Steruckerey von Aloys Senefelder, Franz Gleißner & Comp. in Munich . In this context Gleißner met with the Offenbach music publisher Johann Anton André, who had acquired Mozart's estate. On September 28, 1799, a contract between Senefelder / Gleißner and André was signed to “acquire the secret of printing notes and pictures on stone”.

From 1799 Gleißner worked for three years for the music publisher Johann Anton André in Offenbach as "composer and corrector". He wrote the first thematic index of Mozart's works. “With red ink” he wrote a comment and ordinal numbers on the “copies and originals” and on the “manuscripts, not according to the chronological order but according to the different genres”. Gleißner's draft formed the basis for a directory of Mozart's works by Johann Anton André (1833) and later for the Köchel directory .

Franz Gleißner returned to Munich in 1806 and was employed on October 21, 1809 as a "lythographer". From 1811 Gleißner signed invoices, letters and petitions as “Königl. Druckerey Inspector ”. Between November 1816 and January 1817 Gleißner was “touched” twice and “made incapable of all mental and physical activities”. These sentences were written by the “wife of a man who has become a helpless child” as “the most obedient, humble servant Anna Gleißner, wife of lythographer at the royal tax cadastre commission”.

The entry on September 30th in the Book of the Dead of the Frauenkirche Munich , 1818, p. 35, reads: “Franz Seraph Gleißner, Inspector bey der Königl. Tax cadastre commission, died September 28th early ½2 of Schlagfluss, 59 years ”. He was most likely buried in the Old Munich South Cemetery , where his friend Senefelder also found his final resting place.
