European Championship finals

England met France and Spain for the first time in group C at a European Championship and also, like 2001 and 2009, against Russia and played all games in the Linköping Arena in Linköping .

The English team could not build on the performance of the EM 2009. After an unfortunate 2: 3 defeat against Spain, they ran after a 0-1 deficit in the second game against Russia for a long time before they equalized in stoppage time. In order to move into the quarter-finals, at least one draw had to be achieved against France, but the team did not succeed. Against superior French women, the English women suffered their 100th defeat in their international history and were beaten 3-0. As in 2001 and 2005, they were eliminated from the bottom of the group and dropped four places in the FIFA world rankings . On August 20, Hope Powell was released due to poor performance.
