The eighth season of the German talent show Germany’s Next Topmodel was broadcast between February 28 and June 2, 2013 on the private broadcaster ProSieben . Lovelyn Enebechi was chosen as the winner, Maike van Grieken was second ahead of Luise Will and Sabrina Elsner.
Overview
In the finale of the seventh season, the jury members announced an eighth season of the show. The new production company was RedSeven Entertainment , which already produced Austria's Next Top Model . In addition to declining ratings, it was assumed that the reason for the change was that the previous production company Tresor TV was also responsible for the production of the competing program The Perfect Model on VOX . ProSieben started the total of 14 episodes on February 28, 2013. The season was presented and promoted under the motto “Closer than ever”. The eighth season theme song was the number one hit Scream & Shout by will.i.am feat. Britney Spears . The photographer Enrique Badulescu took over the jury position of Thomas Rath , who was unable to attend , and who took part in the fifth episode when the candidates appeared in his collection.
Almost 15,500 applicants appeared in 23 cities for the auditions. The jurors Heidi Klum and Thomas Hayo used images and videos to select 25 applicants, who had to have a “market-required” minimum height of 1.76 m (previously 1.72 m) as a new criterion. The candidates were surprised with the news by Klum or Hayo personally during work or leisure activities; after Betty Taube canceled because of her high school diploma (which later became known), a classmate of another selected person was spontaneously invited by Klum to participate. In the first episode there was a shoot for the 25 young women in the Kurhaus Wiesbaden , after which a candidate had to retire. The other participants flew to Dubai , where they ran at a fashion show . Then one participant dropped out voluntarily, three others dropped out after the jury's decision. Shootings in Dubai followed in the second episode, after which two more top model aspirants had to leave the show. The third episode was supposed to start with the remaining 18 candidates in Los Angeles, but again one participant gave up and another received no visa for the USA because of her Chinese citizenship. In the fifth episode, fashion films were shot, directed by Jonas Åkerlund and Peter Stormare assisted the candidates as a film partner .
After 2012 there was a final with four title contenders for the second time. It took place for the first time in the Mannheim SAP Arena , as the previous venue, the Cologne Lanxess Arena , was fully booked. After performances by Psy , Robin Thicke and Bruno Mars , Lovelyn Enebechi was declared the winner. Like other participants in the show, she was under contract with Günther Klum's model agency ONEeins . She graduated from high school and took on several modeling jobs, for example for the fashion designer Anne Görtz and Breuninger .
