◀   Season 14

The 15th season of the German casting show Germany’s Next Topmodel was broadcast from January 30, 2020 to May 21, 2020 on the private broadcaster ProSieben . The final took place in a television studio in Berlin . Jacqueline Wruck was chosen as the winner .

Summary

Episode 1 began with the arrival and introduction of the candidates. The next day the aspirants selected at the main casting 38 had to go to a fashion show in front of an audience. Before that, it was time to try on suitable designer clothes and shoes and to the makeup / hairstyling sessions. After that, 25 finalists were selected for the fifteenth season.

In episode 2, the scene changed to Costa Rica . The first task was to individually design your own outfit by decorating skin-colored bikinis with feathers and exotic flowers and leaves. Three participants also moved up. During the photo shoot, they held on to green vertical cloths that were knotted at the lower end, thus also providing support for their feet. The decision walk was run over an 80 cm wide footbridge that led over flowing water .

In episode 3, Heidi Klum gave a catwalk training. The next day they posed for the so-called nude shoot with a horse, or even just on the beach. Four participants received additional coaching for the catwalk. The decision walk started in a gate with posing under a shower, after which they walked over a flooded catwalk through ankle-deep water.

Episode 4 began with jumping training using a trampoline . During the photo shoot, it was time to perform a scenic action pose at the moment of the jump . Fitness training on the beach followed. The decision walk took place on a motocross obstacle course that was coordinated by motocross drivers . The participants were chauffeured to the catwalk on quads .

In the fifth episode, the participants traveled to the United States . A loft in Los Angeles was used as accommodation . The next day the obligatory makeover was due, and the sedcard shoot followed a day later. During the decision walk, they first posed on a rotating platform in front of the catwalk. Because the juror was ill, the elimination process was carried out by the guest juror alone. No participant was eliminated, but five made it into the shoot-out.

In episode 6 there was first a coaching for the catwalk. During the photo shoot, they posed in a gold-colored cage. An additional picture element were live animals (tarantulas, scorpions or cockroaches), which were placed manually on the head or upper body of the participants for the photo session. During the decision walk, they ran over popcorn, glass mosaic tiles and pebbles on a catwalk course.

The photo shoot was based on a scene from the movie The Itchy 7th Year with Marilyn Monroe . After an interview, each of the participants received a hashtag (# horse girl, #nopersonality, #playerwoman, #fake, #langweilerin, #risingstar, #barbie, #eisklotz, # fighter, #alphatier, #underdog, # Mitläuferin, #zicke, # prototype, #norolemodel, #proud), which could be read in a square frame built into the front of the dress during the decision walk, and the judge, together with the guest judge, attached emojis to the frame that matched their assessment .

After a casting, the location changed to Berlin in episode 8 . The participants received coaching for the catwalk, after which they went from casting to casting. The decision walk was a fashion show in front of an audience. The photo shoot included photographing the poses during this fashion show.

Back in Los Angeles, the participants moved into the so-called model villa. A dance choreography was practiced in four put together groups. Later during the photo shoot, they were photographed in the same classification with powdered paint thrown in the air. The dance groups then presented the choreography to live music.

Episode 10 began with the practice of an exhibition match with associated dialogue. The corresponding film scenes were shot in a saloon on a Wild West film set. Then each of the participants received a lyrics to which they then moved their lips synchronously with neon-colored wigs on the decision walk .

During the photo shoot in episode 11, the participants posed with a male model underwater in front of a backdrop in a swimming pool. This was followed by a casting for a campaign for a hair product brand. Then five groups of two were put together, each of which studied a choreography in a standard dance ( Tango , Salsa , Charleston , Rock 'n' Roll and Discofox ) and then performed it.

In episode 12, the candidates posed naked with colorful balloons for a charity calendar. Heidi Klum took two participants to the amfAR gala in New York . During the decision walk, a speech was to be given and a message to be conveyed in it.

In episode 13, the participants invited to a casting were first given the task of styling their hair themselves and then presenting their individual look in a short video clip without a word. During the photo shoot, the aim was to jump from the platform of a 5-meter-high metal scaffolding, secured with a rope, in a pose that was as photogenic as possible. After practicing a dance in the style of the Pussycat Dolls , this was then performed in three assembled trios during the decision walk.

In episode 14, four groups of two were formed, each representing a certain type (Freaky Party Girl, Nerdy College Girl, Lonely Single Girl, Rich Super Diva) in front of the camera. Later, during the actual photo shoot, the participants got the role of an alien; the theme of the scenery was an encounter of the third kind . The decision walk was in the style of the Día de los Muertos .

Episode 15 started with the cover shoot. Afterwards there was a reunion with friends and acquaintances who had been invited to visit. Two separate auditions followed. The participants received catwalk training for haute couture fashion shows. During the decision walk it was necessary to implement what had been learned during the training.

In episode 16 it went straight to the shoot-out. The participants had to cope with a photo shoot on a metal frame that was lifted by a crane at a height of 15 meters in order to pose on a 30 cm wide beam secured with a tether. During the decision walk, they first ran alongside the guest juror in direct comparison, and then completed the second run independently.

The final in episode 17 included four walks: “Be Yourself” walk, “Top 20” walk, LED walk and the puppet walk. On the first walk, Lijana prematurely renounced the finals and thus voluntarily retired in fourth place. Then the pre-recorded final photo shoot was recorded. In addition, various performances by artists and studio guests provided entertainment in between, and there were compilations of season highlights in the form of retrospectives. After the third walk, Maureen was eliminated in third place. The fourth walk was followed by the decision walk, in which Jacqueline was named the winner of the season.

Production notes

In July and August 2019 there were a total of ten pre-casting dates in nine major German cities. The shooting started with the main casting on September 9, 2019 in Munich in the Olympic Park . This casting was held outdoors at Coubertinplatz , with an average outside temperature of 10.3 ° C. The fashion show took place on the evening of the following day right next door on the roof terrace of the Coubertin restaurant.

This was followed by a lengthy break in filming: Heidi Klum began filming Queen of Drags in parallel in September , and in October she also managed filming for America's Got Talent: The Champions . On November 3rd, Klum finally traveled to Costa Rica, where the next three GNTM episodes had been moved. A production crew of over 100 people also traveled with them. The participants moved into bungalows in a surf camp located on the west coast near Playa Negra ( ) in the province of Guanacaste . The journey time was 36 hours, the temperature difference exceeded 20 degrees.

After a further break in filming, the filming of episode 5 continued in Klum's adopted home of Los Angeles . First, the participants were put in a loft in the 415 East 15th Street, within the fashion district ( English Fashion District ) in downtown Los Angeles is located. The decision walk was filmed at Venice Beach . In episode 6, three participants received an invitation to a casting for a model job in Munich. This took place in a photo studio at Frankfurter Ring 247; it was about a multi-page photo series for the May issue of a women's magazine. Episode 7 was shot on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Dolby Theater . The interviews were recorded in a studio in a multi-story building at 1024 South Santee Street. Three participants were able to assert themselves best in their interview, and a report about them was shown on the program taff .

The decision walk in episode 14 was at Movie Ranch Veluzat Motion Picture Ranch ( ), sometimes also called Diamond V Movie Ranch, in Santa Clarita .

Filming for the 16 pre-recorded episodes was completed in early March. However, hosting the live final in May proved difficult.

On May 15, the four finalists were guests of the presenter Daniel Boschmann on the Sat.1 breakfast television program when Heidi Klum asked them to take part in an early photo shoot challenge in a video message. In front of the camera, they then left the television studio in the Fernsehwerft and walked along the public promenade to the Osthafen / diefernsehwerft landing stage, from where they boarded the chartered ship FMS Schöneberg .
