history
The place was created in the 1950s in connection with the development of tin , copper and lead ore deposits in the surrounding mountains. In 1958 he was awarded the status of an urban-type settlement under the name Solnetschny, after the name of the deposit Solnetschnoje (of Russian Solnze for sun, so Sunny settlement ). On the creation of a larger settlement in the later built Erzanreicherungsfabrik at the foot of the mountains, the name in 1966 went with presentation of the status of an urban-type settlement to this over, and the original village was named Gorny of Russian gora for mountain, or about mountain settlement.
Since mining practically came to a standstill in the mid-1980s due to the exhaustion of profitable ore deposits, the area around Gorny and neighboring Solnetschny - benefited by its location in the 1500 m high Mjaochan Mountains and not far from the city of Komsomolsk - has grown a tourist, especially winter sports area of regional importance. In August 2011, Gorny was severely damaged by a flood and contaminated with toxic mining residues.
