Höchst (landscape protection area)

The Höchst area is a landscape protection area designated by ordinance of April 19, 1938 in the Baden-Württemberg municipalities of Deggenhausertal in the Lake Constance district (LSG number 4.35.032, seven hectares ) and Illmensee in the Sigmaringen district (LSG number 4.37.025, fourteen hectares ) in Germany .

location

The contiguous area is a total of 21 hectares and naturally belongs to the Linzgau . It extends over a length of about one kilometer between the hamlets of Raubacker in the southeast, Lehen in the northwest and glassworks in the north, at an altitude of around 800  m above sea level. NN .

The eponymous mountain Höchst , whose highest point is a few meters north, is 837.8  m above sea level. NN the highest elevation in Linzgau and the highest elevation not belonging to the Swabian Alb in the district of Sigmaringen. The Rhine-Danube watershed , which is part of the main European watershed , runs over the highest .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of a mountain range that defines the landscape with an excellent view.

The highest in the foothills of the Alps is one of the few elevations of the Würm Ice Age that was not completely covered by glaciers. This is another reason why remnants of alpine vegetation have survived. Due to the cultural landscape of Upper Swabia and its agricultural management, these were pushed back to a few square meters.
