Moorbad Harbach is a municipality with 734 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .
geography
The municipal area has a size of 35.51 km² and is located in northwestern Lower Austria, in the western Waldviertel , in the administrative district of Gmünd. The north-western part of the municipality is delimited from the Czech Republic by a 13.5 km long state border. This border runs through almost exclusively high forest area. 68.33 percent of the community area is forested.
Moorbad Harbach is located in the middle of a valley delimited in the south by the 1017 m high Nebelstein and in the north by the 874 m high Mandlstein .
The individual cadastral communities have very different altitude values. The lowest is the village of Wultschau at 631 m above sea level, followed by Harbach at 683 m, Lauterbach 703 m, Maißen 720 m and Hirschenwies 825 m.

The municipality includes the following six localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

- Hirschenwies (118) including heaven and forest houses
- Lauterbach (196) including ditch and wood mill
- Maißen (113)
- Schwarzau (7)
- Wultschau (137)
The community consists of the cadastral communities Harbach, Hirschenwies, Lauterbach and Wultschau.
With the Lower Austria. In 1971, the two cadastral communities of Harbach and Wultschau merged voluntarily to form the municipality of Harbach, and in 1972 the cadastral communities of Harbach, Hirschenwies, Maißen, Lauterbach and Wultschau were merged to form the greater municipality of Harbach.

With the establishment of the sanatorium, the community was renamed Moorbad Harbach.

In 1999, the Lower Austrian provincial government awarded the municipality of Moorbad Harbach the municipal coat of arms described below:
In gold on a green hill, in it a silver wavy bar, a black bowl on a granite base, a stylized, three-leaved green bog plant growing out of the bowl.

After a sharp decline in population from 1910 to 1981, it has since stabilized.

economy
There are 84 agricultural and forestry businesses in the municipality, 21 of which are full-time businesses (as of 2010). Ten factories employ eighteen people in the manufacturing sector. The strongly developed service sector employs 510 people in 46 companies, more than three quarters in the hotel and catering sector (as of 2011).
The most important employer is the health and rehabilitation center Moorheilbad Harbach. This is also reflected in the number of overnight stays: Moorbad Harbach has around 20,000 overnight stays per month.
