Jakob Heinrich Ernst Tuckermann (born February 9, 1788 in Königsberg , † January 30, 1867 in Bonn ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Heinrich was a son of the royal tribunal councilor Friedrich Ferdinand Tuckermann (1747–1788) and his wife Friederike Dorothea, née Kurow (1758–1812). His brother August Friedrich Wilhelm (1784–1862) was a district and city judge.

Military career

Tuckermann enrolled on March 30, 1803 at the University of Königsberg to study law and political science . When the Fourth Coalition War broke out, he enlisted in the army and on February 6, 1807, was employed as an ensign in the fusilier battalion "von Stutterheim". He fought at Königsberg, the Passarge and Tilsit in 1807 and was promoted to second lieutenant on April 9, 1807 .

After the Peace of Tilsit he was employed on January 22nd, 1808 in the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment and graduated from the General War School in Berlin in 1810/11 , where he was a student of Scharnhorst . At the end of February 1812 he was transferred to the General Staff and in the same year Tuckermann took part in the battles near Eckau , Olai and Wollgund during the campaign against Russia .

From March 10, 1813 he was employed as a general staff officer with Colonel von Klüx and rose to staff captain by the end of November 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation , he was at the sieges of Glogau , Wittenberg , Philippeville and Givet as well as the battles at Champaubert , Fromentières , Étoges and the Battle of Brienne . He was wounded in the battle near Lizy.

On February 13, 1815, he became a captain on the General Staff of General von Bose . On March 30, 1817 he was patented April 2, 1817 major in the occupation corps in Thionville and at the beginning of September 1818 came to the 15th Division in Cologne . This was followed by a position at the General Command of the VIII Army Corps in Koblenz from March 30, 1821 . For a short time he was commanded from June 21 to July 12, 1825 for service with the 28th and then with the 25th Infantry Regiment . On March 30, 1829 he was transferred to the 29th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander. In 1832 Tuckermann received the service cross and on January 18, 1833, his regiment chief Grand Duke Leopold awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Lion . On April 1, 1835 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 31, 1837 to colonel . Although intended for use as a unit commander , Tuckermann was unable to take over a regiment due to illness .

Tuckermann was then appointed commander of Saarlouis on August 18, 1837 , and on September 2, 1835, was aggregated to the 29th Infantry Regiment . After his health improved, he was promoted to major general on March 22, 1843, commander of the 10th Infantry Brigade in Poznan . After two years of service, Tuckermann took over the post as commandant of Stralsund . In this position he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on the occasion of the festival in January 1846 . Tuckermann took his leave on March 13, 1847 with the statutory pension, conferring the character of Lieutenant General . He moved back to the Rhineland and died on January 30, 1867 in Bonn.

In his 1846 assessment, General von Wrangel wrote : “An officer of moral conduct, honorable attitudes and a wide range of education, along with extensive erudition. In the service he shows great zeal and activity. He is trying hard to strengthen the good understanding between the military and civilians more and more. His health seems to be weakened. "
