action

Witches are burned alive

Original title: La Strega Bruciata Viva , directed by Luchino Visconti

Film star and model Gloria tries at least for a moment to escape the stressful and externally determined life as a star and visits her friend Valeria in her chalet in Kitzbühel . But Valeria's husband and the other guests of the invited company also only court her as a star, whom they try to dismantle behind her back. Pregnant Gloria collapses and begs her absent husband and producer on the phone to at least temporarily take a break. But at the end of the film, amid great media hype, she is picked up by a helicopter and brought back to her old life.

Practical willingness to help

Original title: Senso Civico , directed by Mauro Bolognini

The woman had actually promised the accident victim Elio Ferocci to take him to the hospital. Instead, however, she only uses the emergency as a pretext to get to the meeting point with her lover faster, bypassing all traffic rules across Rome, where she simply puts the seriously injured person on the street.

The earth viewed from the moon

Original title: La terra vista dalla luna , directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini

Baciu couples his widowed father Giancicato Miao with the deaf and mute Assurdina. But she soon dies in an accident trying to steal some money with a publicly staged suicide attempt. This time, however, the unhappy widower retained his wife even after death.

The Sicilian

Original title: La Siciliana , director: Franco Rossi

The spirited Nunzia blackens a potential admirer of her father. He wants to avenge the injured honor of his family and kills the young man, both families now wipe each other out.

A night like any other

Original title: Una Sera Come Le Altre , director: Vittorio De Sica

Housewife Giovanna is frustrated by her life and her increasingly adapted and boring husband Carlo. In wild, opulent daydreams, she lets her passionate past come back to life in a much better way, fights for the attention of her husband and dreams of a life as a star much coveted by all men, who Carlo rejects.

criticism

“Episodic film with Silvana Mangano, who embodies five different types of women with remarkable versatility: from the hypothermic lady to the spirited Sicilian. While the works of Bolognini, Rossi and De Sica remain conventional, Visconti and Pasolini make original contributions, characterized by personal commitment and stylistic uniqueness. "

“With great versatility, she plays five different types of women under directing stars such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luchino Visconti or Vittorio De Sica with US star Clint Eastwood as a guest. Conclusion: wonderful declaration of love to a star "

“Five episodes by well-known Italian directors with Silvana Mangano as the leading actress. In none of the film parts is a really satisfactory solution achieved, as the overall title can only be justified with difficulty. Dispensable despite the noticeably ambitious design. "
