In the urban areas of Bad Münder am Deister in the north-east, Hameln in the south and Hessisch Oldendorf in the west, it rises between Hamelspringe (north-north-east), Klein Süntel (east-south-east) and Flegessen (south-east) (all to Bad Münder), Welliehausen and Unsen in the south (both to Hameln), Pötzen in the southwest and Haddessen in the west (both to Hessisch Oldendorf).

Natural allocation

The Hohe Egge belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37), in the main unit Calenberger Bergland (378) and in the subunit Weserberge (378.1) to the natural area Südost-Süntel (378.13). Mountain tops and heights

The Hohe Egge has two knolls about 900 m apart, north knoll ( ) and south knoll ( ), which are each a little more than 440  m above sea level. NHN are high. The northern tip is in the Bad Münder area, and the border from Bad Münder to Hessisch Oldendorf runs across the southern tip, while the urban area of Hameln extends to the south-southeast flank of the southern tip. To the south of the radar tower on the north summit, the altitude “435.2” is shown on topographic maps . On the southern summit, near the Süntelturm, there is a survey point , the height of which is given as "437.5". On some maps the altitude “437” can be found in the summit regions of both peaks, to which the often mentioned mountain height of 437  m should refer.

Flowing waters

On the northern flank of the north crest in Hamelspringe lies the source of the Hamel , which flows around the mountain northeast via east to south , on the eastern flank the Große and Kleine Steinbach arise as source streams of the small Hamel tributary Steinbach, and on the western flank is the source of the Haddessener Bach as the left source stream of the Nahrenbach . On the southern flank of the southern crest, the small Nahrenbach tributary Pötzer Bach and the Hamel tributary Herksbach (Feuerbach) arise.

On the southern crest of the Hohen Egge, as a successor to the Augusta Tower, which opened in 1882, there is the Süntelturm observation tower (with a mountain restaurant added in 1910), which was inaugurated in 1901 and is 25 m high. From its viewing platform, the view falls over the southern landscape and to sights in the area; in good visibility conditions the view extends to the Brocken in the Harz Mountains .

Radar tower

On the northern tip of the Hohen Egge there is a radar tower as a remnant of a former US Army base that was abandoned in 1991.

Plane crashes

On October 16, 1962, two Republic F-84F Thunderstreak jet fighters crashed on the Hohe Egge in thick fog , killing the two Belgian pilots. In 2001 a memorial with a plaque was erected on the Steinweg between the Falltal and the Süntelturm - right next to the crash site.

Traffic and walking
