IC 3617 is an irregular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Im in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 90 million light-years away from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light-years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VCC 1791 .
The galaxies NGC 4570 , NGC 4598 , NGC 4612 , NGC 4623 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on November 22nd, 1899 .
