In the Valley of the Wild Roses is a ZDF film series whose individual films such as the films in the Rosamunde Pilcher series or the films from the dream ship were broadcast as part of the “Big ZDF Sunday Film”.
Content and concept
The focus is on women who ventured into new territory in the pioneering days of the 19th century, built a new life with hard work and had to fight for survival. It shows women who have practical professions (doctors, midwives, tailors), but also women with artistic professions (writers, photographers). The young couple was confronted with a love affair in the parents' generation several times. Some characters, such as the village pastor Lucas, the shopkeeper Doris, the officer and Major Calhoun or the old Indian Nakota, appear in two films in the television series.
The film was shot on Canadian original locations in the province of Alberta in the Rocky Mountains .
The text introducing each individual story is always spoken by Gerlinde Locker , and at the end of the film there is a concluding comment that roughly provides information on how the story continued. Sometimes there are also short interim texts. Gerlinde Locker can also be seen as an actress in a leading role in the film Renunciation from Love (2006). Barbara Engelke wrote the scripts .
13 stories were filmed in the television series.
