action

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor , Captain Torrey is assigned to carry out the counter-attack. The attack fails and Torrey has to return defeated. His command is withdrawn for political reasons. Back in Pearl Harbor, he is ordered to do desk duty. During this time, Captain Torrey struggles with his son, whom he did not know before and who despises him. As the war progressed, Torrey was promoted to admiral based on his experience and was given command again. He immediately brings his former first officer Eddington back to his side as chief of staff . Shortly before the storming of a chain of islands occupied by Japanese, he raped the friend of Jere Torrey, the son of Admiral Torrey, who committed suicide as a result. Eddington then flies on a fact-finding mission that he knows will not return to find the Japanese fleet. In the end, the Japanese fleet can be repulsed and the islands conquered. However, Torrey's son and all of his officers die. Only himself and his new girlfriend, a nurse , survive.
