Ioan Timaru (born March 25, 1974 in Bălan ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who is under contract with Steaua Bucharest in the Romanian ice hockey league.

Career

Club

Ioan Timaru has been with Steaua Bucharest since the beginning of his career . With the club from the capital he won the Romanian championship title in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 . In 1998 (spring), 1998 (autumn), 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2011 (autumn) and 2012 he also won the Romanian ice hockey cup with Steaua . In the 2013/14 season he was together with Stanislav Eis from CSM Dunărea Galați behind his teammate Constantin Mircea, the second top scorer in the Romanian league . He also played with his team in the multinational MOL league for three years .

International

Timaru was already active in the junior area at world championships. In 1990 , 1991 and 1992 he took part in the B-European Championship of the U18 juniors. In 1993 and 1994 he played at the U20 B World Championships.

He made his debut in the men's national team at the 1994 B World Cup . Also in 1995 , when he was voted the best player on his team, he played in the B group, but had to accept relegation to the C group with the Romanians, in which he then competed in 1996 , 1997 , 1998 , 1999 and 2000 . After switching to the current division system, he played in 2001 , 2006 , 2008 , when he was second best scorer and preparer behind his compatriot Cătălin Geru , in 2010 and 2015 in Division II as well as in 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 , 2014 and 2016 when he first acted as the Romanians' team captain at the age of 42, in Division I.

He also played for Romania in the qualifying tournament for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
