The Jacobo Hunter District is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on June 2, 1990. The district was named after Jacob Dixon Hunter (1837-1926), a Scottish doctor who lived and practiced in Arequipa. The district has an area of 20.37 km². At the 2017 census, 50,164 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 39,180, in 2007 46,092. The district administration is located in the city of Jacobo Hunter . This is part of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is 5.3 km south-southwest of the city center.
Geographical location
The Jacobo Hunter district is located in the south-western center of the Arequipa province at an altitude of 2250 m . The district has a lengthwise extension in SW-NE direction of about 7 km. The Río Tingo Grande flows through the district in a westerly direction and flows into the Río Chili, which flows along the western district boundary .
The Jacobo Hunter district borders the Tiabaya and Sachaca districts to the west, the Arequipa district to the north, the José Luis Bustamante y Rivero and Socabaya districts to the east, and the Yarabamba district to the south .
