Jaivon Harris (born June 23, 1982 in Alliance , Ohio ) is an American basketball coach and former player. After completing his studies in his home country, Harris played as a professional in Germany , including all seasons in the 2nd Bundesliga and its successor ProA except for one year in the top division basketball Bundesliga . With the BBC from Bayreuth he became ProA Champion in 2010 and was named ProA Player of the Year 2009/10 .

Career

player

In 2000, Harris moved from his hometown to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio , where he played for the college team Bobcats in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference . His teammates included the later Bundesliga basketball players Patrick Flomo , Steven Esterkamp and Brandon Hunter . During this time, however , the Bobcats did not get any further success, so they did not take part in any national final of the NCAA .

In 2004 Harris turned professional and signed a contract in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Group South with BV 99 from Chemnitz . After a seventh place in the 2004/05 season they reached a third place in the 2005/06 season . This front placement could be confirmed with a fifth place in the 2nd basketball league 2006/07 . Then the regional groups of the 2nd basketball league were merged and the teams were divided into two hierarchical seasons.

Harris moved to BBC Bayreuth in 2007, who played like the Chemnitz Niners in the upper class ProA 2007/08 and, in contrast to the Niners, achieved a midfield placement. A year later they only narrowly failed in third place because of the poorer direct comparison with Phoenix Hagen on a promotion placement . In the ProA 2009/10 one was finally chosen Master of ProA and Jaivon Harris for Player of the Year. In the basketball Bundesliga 2010/11 , the Bayreuth managed to stay up as a climber, but after Harris' shares in the higher division had fallen, they separated at the end of the season.

In the ProA 2011/12 Harris went on a basket hunt for the ambitious newcomer Nürnberger BC, who, however, clearly missed the promotion play-offs . Then Harris moved again and went to league rivals BG Karlsruhe. In the 2013/14 season Harris struggled with major injury problems and fell out after cartilage damage in both knee joints from January 2014 for the rest of the season.

Trainer

After the 2013/14 season, Harris moved to KIT SC Karlsruhe . There he trained the second team of the "Gequos" in the major league and also worked as an assistant coach for the first team in the regional league. In addition, according to the club's donations, he should also be active as a player again if his state of health allowed it. In 2015, he succeeded Aleksandar Scepanovic as head coach of the first team in Karlsruhe. In the 2016/17 season he led Karlsruhe to second place in the Regionalliga Süd-West and rose with the team to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB , as Master Schwenningen did not receive a license. There he missed staying in the class with the Karlsruhe team in the 2017/18 season, but remained in office even after relegation to the regional league. He stayed in office until the end of the 2018/19 game year and then left Karlsruhe and the team for family reasons. In the summer of 2019, he took up the post of women's and youth coach (age groups U8 and U10) at BBU '01 eV, the foundation of the Bundesliga club Ratiopharm Ulm .
