Land Forces (Jamaica)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The components of the Jamaica Land Forces , like the Air Wing and the Coast Guard , report directly to the headquarters (HQ) of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF). Seat of the rods is in Up Park Camp , Kingston . The JDF was founded on July 31, 1962, a few days before Jamaica's independence on August 6 of that year. It emerged from the West India Regiment (WIR). The land forces do not represent a real part of the armed forces , but take on tasks that span all parts of the armed forces , similar to the armed forces base in the Bundeswehr .

In addition to territorial defense, the armed forces were responsible for police duties from the start .
