Logistics team
The logistics force is the entirety of all forces responsible for logistics in an armed force and forms a separate branch of the armed forces . The main tasks are replenishment , transport and repair .
In the military, logistics workers can be found in all branches of the armed forces , military organizational areas and also as an organic part of other branches of the armed forces . In the Federal Armed Forces, these forces are combined in the 1st / staff and supply company up to the association level of other branches of the armed forces and in all branches of the armed forces . From the United Association Brigade the tasks of the military logistics of independent companies or combined battalions are perceived.
In Germany the logistics troops are subordinate to the armed forces base , in the German army as army logistics troops . In Austria the comparable type of service is referred to as the supply force .
tasks
The logistics force ensures the supply of the other units with all necessary military goods that the association to be supplied needs to maintain the combat strength. To do this, they organize and carry out the procurement and distribution (transport) of these goods to the appropriate points of need, if the troops themselves do not have the necessary transport capabilities. In military parlance, this task is usually referred to as replenishment . In the event of a defense, the supply of the fighting troops is referred to as combat logistics.
The range of supplies is diverse and is divided into
- Bulky consumer goods (MVG): Goods that are consumed and required by the troops in large quantities. This primarily includes ammunition, fuel and food.
- Individual consumer goods (EVG): Replenishment goods that are subject to wear and tear, but have to be delivered to the front either only when required or in small numbers.
- Non-consumer goods (NVG): Everything that is normally not subject to consumption, e.g. large devices such as vehicles etc.
In many armed forces, the task of replenishment also includes the storage of goods in (field) depots.
The repair troop counts in many armed forces to the logistics troops. This carries out the repair of weapons, large equipment, devices and machines. Maintenance is the responsibility of the troop using it.
Repair forces - mostly at the troop level - carry out the recovery of failed vehicles with armored recovery vehicles or recovery vehicles , the repair force the removal by transport with heavy load low loaders. Field repair points in the rear combat area - as troop repair point TIP at combat troop level , as army repair point HIP by a logistics battalion or the brigade repair company - restore a field-usable condition.
The medical service can be part of the logistics, rarely of the logistics team.
history
Historically , the supply force emerged from the entourage , which was initially not or only rudimentarily armed. Until 1945, and also when the Bundeswehr was founded, the supply troops were referred to as quartermaster troops . With the advent of the railroad, especially during World War I , supplies were brought close to the front by the military railways and transported on by trucks . The main load, however, had to be carried out by hauled train units until the Second World War . Only after the Second World War was the supply fully motorized.
Since the entourage or the supply troops carry a comparatively high risk at all times, since the enemy always strives to attack supply routes, especially through air forces, but also through enemy forces fighting in the rear, and this is of essential importance for the combat strength of the troops, In the 20th century , people began to arm the supply troops and to train them in rudimentary infantry combat. Nevertheless, the losses were particularly high for units of the supply in World War II . In modern armies, therefore, soldiers of the supply troops also receive basic infantry training, which enables them to perform security tasks, and their executives are trained to perform these both in the specific function and in security as well as in survival and penetration .
The motorization and mechanization as well as the increasingly complex weapon systems in modern armies of the 20th century, including radio - and other information technology , radar technology u. a. led to the creation of special repair troops, which were initially referred to as field soldiers , since the repair could no longer be carried out by the operating personnel.
In the National People's Army of the GDR , the troops were also referred to as reverse services . Instead of a grouping under the term logistics troops, a grouping under the designation technical troops was temporarily introduced in Germany.
armed forces
In the Bundeswehr, the logistics group refers to the troops responsible for land-based logistics in the armed forces base . In the army, however , comparable forces are referred to as army logistics troops . The (army) logistics force as a separate military type is only known in the armed forces base and in the army , because in the navy and air force there is no grouping of troops, although both branches of the armed forces also have (also land-based) logistics forces. In particular, the units of the navy, air force or army aviators that are capable of sea or air transport are not counted as part of the logistics force .
The army logistic force was created through the reorganization of the military branches in the course of the transformation of the Bundeswehr (announced in the commanding letter of the inspector of the army of October 17, 2005) from the formerly independent branches of supply troops , repair troops and the transport units of the army. In the armed forces base, the comparable forces were subsequently combined to form the logistics force. Outwardly, the forces of the army and the army uniform wearers do not differ in terms of the armed forces base and army, despite the slightly different names. In addition, the army uniforms receive largely identical training in both military organizational areas.
